Hello everyone, I am new to bonsai. I picked up this rather odd looking ficus on sale at a gardening store. I would like some advice on what can be done to get the tree growing over the dieback that occured on the trunk where the grafting took place. Also I was wondering if it's possible to encourage the tree to form roots higher up so I can eventually take away the bulbous and unven roots below. What would you do to make this into an interesting project? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

Hummmm....
This graft is really a problem, I think you will have to carve it into something less visible.
But...
Not to be the cold shower guy, this is going to be very, very difficult to be transformed into a good bonsai.
Yes, it is possible.
No, I would't try. I would start with better material (good roots, fat trunk, some growth in the right places).

I was thinking along the same lines. So I guess one could just save it for cuttings or what not?
