Looks like on our search for information we encounter the same pages :)

There are many good books available, which are useful, but In my opinion the best way by far to learn is to join a club and or go to talk to an experienced grower who knows local conditions and how species grow in your area.
That is what I have always done, and it by far the quicikest and best way of learning.

There should be some information on what circumstances artificial lighting can and and how it should be utilized.

Currently there are a few pages (only 2?) On bonsaihunk's site about this, and my posts to this forum.

One can replicate lights bright enough to grow "outdoor only" trees in a custom crafted indoor environment.

Everyone will laugh until they try it for themselves using lights bright enough. Windows with full sun arent enough.

Also, how close yoh have the lights to the trees is extremely important as light attenuates and becomes insufficient if the distance is too far.

There isn't a lot of info about this, as bonsai is quite traditional and people arent willing to try nea things.

Nasa has some good info on artificial lights, but i doubt there are bonsai in space....yet..

i think there should be a "more people get involved" kind of thing. many of my friends think bonsai trees are expensive (?92 or something), really hard to take care of, and that they are hard to get. so i think there should be straight, basic facts for people who have not had experience with bonsai.

sorry about my previous post if it did not make you feel happy.

yours sincerely,
jaimin

Stripe, you said that window light is not good enough, but at my school, there is a ficus benjamina variegated form and it has survived 10 meters away from a window for 5 good years. not all bonsai can survive without window light, let alone window light.

That's because it is a tropical plant that comes from a rain forest and does not need a lot of light. And it is nothing to do with bonsai.
