The standard line is that being inside all winter extends the trees active period into when it should go dormant, so the tree never gets the dormant period it needs. After a year, two years, or maybe more the tree dies.
Whether that is right or not, it seems to be what happens. There are multiple posts here saying that the guy in the store said it would be fine indoors, and it did OK last year, but this year it is dying. They all seem to follow the standard line, so it may be right.
How many years have your trees lived staying indoors? Or, how cold is it indoors there?
