每日吃瓜 half dead half healthy!? was created by Rookie 每日吃瓜

Hi everyone

I am new to this forum and fairly new to 每日吃瓜 trees. I've had my two ficus microcarpa ginseng trees for almost a year. They were doing great last year until it became winter in Minnesota. I've always kept these guys indoors but I think the change of season lead to them rapidly losing their leafs. It got so bad that I thought they were goners until I moved them around my house and started paying closer attention to their watering needs. To my surprise they grew back over the past couple months. The issue I'm dealing with now is that on both trees roughly half of the branches appear dead with no leafs whatsoever, and the other half of the branches are thriving! My gut tells me to trim the trees and get rid of the branches not producing but I don't want to do so if it will hurt the tree in any way. Any ideas? Also, if trimming the tree is the best option, how do I correctly do so? Where do I cut and is there a certain technique I need to be aware of?

Anything helps at this point! Thanks in advance.

The issue with trees inside in winter is normally lack of sunlight and low humidity.

Putting it at lower temperature whithin each species comfort zone Will lower the symptoms.

For now, approaching spring. Put it outside when the night temperature are whithin the species comfort zone with slow adjustment to the sunlight. There is a still a good chanse of recovery.

As this is a tropical plant you will have to keep it protected from cold, so unfortunately it will have to live inside. If you have a greenhouse that would be better.

I live on the southeastern edge of Minnesota, right on the Mississippi River. Summers are hot and accompanied by tons of humidity. If these guys thrive on humidity and warmth/sun then I feel comfortable putting them outside for the summer, once the night temperatures rise some.
