Hello. I noticed that my Chinese elm is loosing leaves. it s been like 1 week since i have this problem. It stays outside. We didn t have sun this week but now the sun is shining. I watered only when the soil was dry. What do you think is the problem? I noticed that there are some buds so this is a good sign. Why is he loosing leaves? Is it because we had a windy without sun week?

Has it been outside all winter? Or have you just moved it?

Dropping leaves is often a sign of change of location. I see nothing obviously wrong here. Could it be just dropping of last years leaves?

look perfectly fine to me, leaves do die, it is natural. Possibly you need to water a bit more, don't let the soil get dry, but almost dry. I have been watering every day, and don't assume because it has been raining that it will be enough. We have had light rain but the soil is still dry under the top 10mm

It may matter what time of day you water. My trees get hard sun about 9:00-3:00. Watering after 3 does little good. They want the water earlier.

It rained pretty well Thursday last week and I forgot to water until late afternoon, when several trees had wilting new growth. They came back quickly, but the lesson is obvious.

i read in a book that it is better when you water the tree in the evening, when the sun goes down.

Anything like that you have to interpret the book's location and your location, and lots of other factors.

Around here we have these huge roaches called Florida Carpet Beetles, about three-four inches long - yes, up to 10 cm. During dry times they come out at night and look for water. My trees are close to the house, and watering the trees after sunset calls the bugs. No watering even close to sundown.

We use to have something like that, then these huge huntsman spiders showed up. No more big bugs.

About the only time I get to water is in the evening, so you have to plan ahead. How hot did the meteorologist, say it will be?

June will be highs of 90 to 95F, 32 to 35C. Later in the summer it will be hot, 100 or 105, 37 or 40. Nights now will be comfortable, later lows will be 90/32. We were in Rome once talking with an American expat, and the weather here is pretty similar.
