Hello. A friend sent this pictures and asked me if I know what s happening to his tree trunk. Is it rotten? What can he do?

He can carve the dead wood a little and use a wood hardener to stop the rot spreading.

This ficus trunk is hardly rotting. It is damaged, but the tree is coping. I would just let it be. Over time, the tree will grow over the damaged area
