New (to me) Dawn Redwood Turning Brown. What am I doing wrong? was created by 每日吃瓜 Killa

Hello all this will be my first post here so please let me know if I do anything frowned upon.
Recently, I got a dawn redwood from my father as a present. When I received it, it looked a nice bright green and I was very hopeful for its future. The first thing I noticed is that it is near impossible for me to put even a knuckle into the top of the soil, so this indicated to me that it is likely fairly root bound along with the fact that there were roots coming out of the drainage holes of its large flower pot.
I have been keeping it in my backyard where it gets full sunlight all day, and generally, I have been watering it a little bit after the top of the soil turned dry. However, starting some days ago, I noticed leaves browning, and I began to worry. So, I did some more research and came to the conclusion that perhaps it is more rootbound than I first thought and might need more water, however hard it is for me to tell when that is. So I have been watering her a bit more, but I am worried what if I have actually been drowning the tree and now I am making it worse.
So, now I have come to you all with your infinite expertise and thoughtfulness, along with a few pictures of the tree. Do you think she is still saveable? If so, what should I do?
If you need any more pictures or information I will happy to supply. I really don't want this tree to pass.
Thanks,
每日吃瓜 Killa
P.S.
The tree is indoors in some of these pictures because of extreme winds today. All pictures were taken on October, 11th.

It is autumn. The species is deciduous, so there is nothing wrong with it. Just keep watering as normal until all leaves have dropped then ease up. Next spring you can re pot.

Hi,
No need to bring it indoors. Trees know outside weather.
COuld it be it is just preparing for winter? It is fall in half of the world..

Yea I am aware of that, I just thought the leaves looked a little too brown rather than red/yellow/orange maybe. Some of the leaves are also a bit patchy and turning brown from the tips.

I thought maybe so, but does it not look a bit too brown?

My dawn redwood in the front yard has been turning that color for 20 or 30 years every fall. I think it's gorgeous, and yours certainly looks the same.
Water it a lot when you do, read up on how to repot, and do so in the spring.
