Winterizing Juniper 每日吃瓜 was created by llars123

Hello, I just received the Juniper 每日吃瓜 starter kit from 每日吃瓜! I live in Utah so the temperature will be around below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit) for the next two months. I'm unsure if I should put it outside in the middle of winter because I'm afraid it will shock the plant without an acclimation period. Does anyone have experience in a similar situation? What is the best thing for me to do? Should I proceed to pruning and wiring my Juniper before I repot it like the Step-By-Step guide suggests since it's not early spring? Help would be much appreciated.

It really needs to be outside.
Ask the seller where they kept it. I would doubt it was kept in a warm place, so there would be no shocking it.

...and take your time about all the rest.
You can wire it anytime in the future. Right now your first priority is learning how to take care of it.
Wiring and pruning can wait.

Put it outside emeadently. Any repotting, wiring or prunning can wait a year or two. Just focus on keeping it alive and build up streangth and health.

I just received my juniper bonsai in the mail today (i live in the Chicago land area so its fairly cold ( 34F right now ) ) and I immediately put my plant outside and it was sent from California. They're fairly hardy so it won't be anything it can't handle

Frost resistence needs to be build up though. Moving a hardy species from the tropics into the frost can certainly damage it.

I see, perhaps an enclosure like a garage or shed would be better suited for the transition to avoid the frost then?

Yes. Something like 5-10 celsius for a couple of weeks before exposing it to frost.
