This summer, I bought a shin deshojo maple at a nursery in a 3 gal pot. I placed it near my other trees and hooked it up to my irrigation system. We had a few very hot days, and it wound up being my only tree to have it's leaves scorch. I learned the hard way this species needs a bit of shade.

I moved it to a more shaded area and plucked / cut off all leaves. They started growing back soon after. Now, in mid January, it still has all leaves. Some of my other maples already have buds swelling. Should I leave it alone? Or pluck / cut off the leaves again? I don't want to stress the tree. But I am also concerned that the normal cycle of buds developing late winter/early spring will be thrown off.

Advice welcomed.

I normally clean out my maples when I decide it is time and they have not all dropped. It is not a big concern though. Budding will not really be affected whether you leave them or not.
