leaves dry, desiccated was created by Apalaz

Hi all. I was given a beautiful Azalea bonsai in December. It seemed to be dormant but then started to bloom. We live in Wisconsin so we have no choice but to keep in indoors during the winter. I have been watering regularly. I pruned back a few branches and I think my husband added fertilizer. It now seems dessicated. The leaves are all crips and fall off if touched. I hoping there is some way to save it! Any help is very appreciated.

This is a temperate species. You need to give the tree a proper winter dormancy. Right now it is very stressed and confuced about which season it is.

Bringing it inside is what caused the problem. Our houses ( living rooms that is) are too dry, lack sunlight (which is what plants live on) and too warm ( plants need their winter dormancy.
I have no idea what the temp is where you live, but if it’s above zero, place it outside , if it’s still freezing place it in an unheated frostfree room.
Water with a garden hose or watering can untill water spills from the drainage hole underneath. Water again when soil feels dry to the touch. Take away the pebbles, they prevent you from seeing the soil.

A note.

There seems to be the usual issue with different countries using different temperature scales. I think LucR meant 0 C, which is freezing, or 32F.

The tree is in Wisconsin, where (according to my niece) it has been below 0F for a long time, and she hasn't seen temps above freezing since December or so. 0F = -18C or thereabouts.

Move the tree to an unheated garage or other room attached to the house. Temps there probably won't get below freezing, or if so only a degree or so. By a window that gets sun would be great.
