Hi everyone,
I've been away for a while but I dont have much good news, I've been busy at work and not done much with my trees but keep them alive.
I have some bad news tho, my dog recently chewed the bark off of the apex branch of my favourite juniper, he took off about an inch of the bark around most of the circumference of the branch that is probably less than an inch of diameter, I quickly taped what was left of the bark back on it is fully connected at some points after I taped it but it is very damaged. Is there anything i can do to help this branch survive ?
It is quite a vigorous branch and I have been spraying the leaves with water often, dont know what else to do, please help

There is not much else. I would keep it out of midday sun. Have you fully wrapped the damaged area? The main risk I see it that the wood dries out. If the bark still is connected and has decent width, you might end up with a natural looking shari. But key is to ensure the exposed wood does not dry out before the tree can balance things out. AND you need to make sure the remaining bark does not detach from the wood. Wrapping the damaged area would help there.
If it were in my yard:
- Smear vaseline all over the exposed area (Vaseline is in composition somewhat similar to coniferous resin, and will reduce dehydration, encouraging callusing)
- Wrap with wet raffia (tight, but gentlytight, if you know what I mean). Make sure you have all the edges covered. This will ensure the bark cannot lift from the wood, keeping all together'
- Wrap this with a foil for a week or two, so the plant can sort things out.
In a week or two, remove the foil. In fall remove the raffia.
This image is of a plant where the person removing it, just wanted it gone and roughly spaded it out. I did a similar thing when I found it in a dumpster

Thank you very much for the help I will apply the vaseline and raffia today and hope for the best.
My dog had already previously had a taste of this tree but it was a part that I was trying to shari and he sped the process along, he did quite a good job actually but this time he went too far hehehe
