Hi all,

There are tiny elm seedlings growing out of gaps in the pavements around my house which are doomed when the next weedkiller/dog/pedestrian gets them.

I'm trying to see if i can save a couple and them to grow on and want to know how to do it. They are about 4 inches tall with a couple of shoots and leaves with a tiny root ball. I've picked a couple and planted in them in soil but not sure if they'll survive.

Is it possible to collect seedlings at this time of year (UK) and what gives them the best chance of growing on?

Appreciated!

sure. Make sure you get some roots. Plant them, and keep moist, not wet. Keep them out of wind and sun for the first weeks

As you said, leave them there and they will all be killed, so why not?

Get some potting soil and be as gentle as you can. Elms are the only seedlings I have luck with. Good luck.
