HELP! I dropped my bonsai and the trunk is damaged was created by umm

So I was carrying my 2 ish year old juniper and dropped it. The rest of the tree is fine but there is a big cut in the trunk the branch isn’t holding on by much. What should I do and can I salvage the branch?

In nature trees loose branches all the time, don’t worry.
Btw, i would plant that young juniper in the ground for a few years ( 5-10) to fatten up the trunk and become a bit more mature. It’s not because you plant a 2 year old tree in a bonsai pot that it is a bonsai all of a sudden.

You might find this tree will not loose the branch, if you leave it alone now. If you have some vaseline (petroleum jelly) you could put a dollop in there. But taht is mainly for the first days that it does not dry out too fast and help the tree. If this happened more than 24h ago, I would not bother anymore.

Key: Leave it alone for the next months. The plant will show whether the branch lives or dies.

The crack is bad, but not soo bad that I am committed to it dying. It might very well live through this, mainly because it is a branch junction: The branch split, rather than broke.

Just leave it be, this happens all the time to trees. They've evolved to deal with such.

I am aware of that, I just wanted the root system to start expanding into a larger area than a plastic cup so the tree could grow better.

Ok, thank you. So far the cut has dried up so petroleum jelly isn’t going to be very helpful so I guess I’ll leave the tree alone for some time. One question though, can I still wire the rest of the tree and not that branch?
