Here is an update. My parents are insisting I keep it indoors. And that if I don’t the plant will die. They also claim the darkened tips are from the sun scorching it, I believe however it is due to over fertilization. What should I do?

Why do your parents say this? Do they think they know better? My parents are the same always bringing them inside when it has been raining for an hour, or is windy. or trying to keep snow off them. I have found you just have to tell them not to care for your trees and that you know what is best for them.

At this point it does not matter anymore. The advice your parents gave you is plain wrong. I suspect they have no idea about plants. It has killed this plant for sure. There is still somegreen but the plant is effectively dead. Sorry.
