I have grow ight that has four arms on it. The tolal out put from the four lights is 200 watts. I have a Ginseng Ficus bonsai tree that I defoliated a month ago., I aso have a Tiger Bark Ficus and lastly a Weeping Barbados Cherry bonsai. I have the lights between 2 in from the plants to 6 in from the plants. they do not seem to be affected being too close or to far. Am I going to hurt them with the small distances I have the lights from the trees.

I really need some guidance in this matter.

Thank you

I have never seen anyone here using grow lights. We grow bonsai in the japanese way. Locally hardy species outdoors. I don't think anyone can give an experienced answer.

However, I do grow other plants under grow light. Have been measuring up a lot of different lights. So far I have never seen a product that is even close to sunlight streangth a summer day up here in the cold north. And I think the sunlight is stronger in the tropics where your trees is from. My conclusion is that it is not possible to give your tree too much led light if they can handle full sun in their natural distribution range. However all plants need slow adjustments to increased light. Measure the light where the tree was previously grown. Make sure you don't increase intensity more than 10% per week and I think it will be ok.

BTW: watt is not a measurement of light output nor quality. It is a measurement of light source power consuption.
