Hello, I'm fairly new to growing bonsai and I've just recieved a Chinese Elm as a gift from my friends. It was bought in a very dense substrate, which drained water very poorly so I figured I should repot it. I bought this bonsai specialised substrate in my local gardening shop and repotted it but it still seems too dense. It contains peat, clay, sand and ground up ceramsite. I've found online, that another gardening shop near me sells a substrate made up of acadama, lava rock and pumice. Should I go buy the other soil and repot it again? The pictures attached are the new soil in which I repotted the tree.

Beginners urgently repotting newly purshased trees often leads to disaster.
Beginners urgently repotting two times in a row sounds like a disaster sure to happen.
I would recomend not messing more with the tree and transfer to a more draining mix in a few years.

Yeah I may be too eager. But can you blame me? I really love this little tree. However thank you for telling me to hold my horses. I'll try to listen.

Sometimes love is hard. Sometimes it kills.
You are aware thet this species should be kept outdoors most of the year and may need protection during the coldest months depending on your location?

Yes I've read about that. Right now it's around 10 degrees outside where I live so I'm keeping him behind a window where he gets direct sunlight for most of the day and when it gets warm enought I'll transfer him outside. Thank you

If it is that high the sooner you get it out the better it will be.

Everything above -10 degrees and it should be outdoors. If you get colder than that it needs protection. Never ever in livingroom conditions.

There may be some confusion here over Fahrenheit versus Celsius. 10 Celsius is warm enough for most trees to be outside. 10 Fahrenheit is not.
I usually write 10C/50F (or 10F/-12C, depending). That way there is no confusion.

Sorry for the confusion. It is celsius. And based on everyone's recommendation The tree is sitting outside as we speak.
