Cherry 每日吃瓜 Tree - Is it dead? was created by Katiekatie242411

Hi. I need some help with my tree. Back in October I have received a cherry bonsai tree. It was bare back then, no leaves etc. I had it over winter, placed it in sheltered spot, it had some wrap around it over frosty days. About a month ago when days got warmer it had a few buds and flowers ( see pic) so it was alive. However straight after buds fell off the tree started looking sad. No leaves showed and its been looking sad since. Has it died? I'm not sure if its somethig I've done or not done. Is there any chance saving it??

Not what I wanted to hear... What could have happened to it? So I know not to repeat that in the future.

Also what are the tell signs if bonsai is dead? Any way to check? I'm new to this so would be useful to know.

You show us a picture from october on a very week tree that is both flowering and pushing leafs. If you are in the nortern hemisphere that is a tree that is extreamly confused about the season and are about to spend its last energy reserve on foliage that will not create any new energy. Instead they will drop the leafs and the last energy stored with it. This normally happens when the tree is in a far too warm temperature for the season. Your, the sellers or the producers local climate and position of the tree may be the reason.

Now, if you are in the Southern hemisphere, the flowering may have happened during the right time. If the tree growed healthy during all season, it may not be that bad. After all South is going into winter now and bare trees is normal at that time of the year.

In any case, that wrinkly bark tells me that most of the tree, if not all is dead. If you are in the north, just get rid of it. If you are in South, just wait until spring to see if it comes into leaf.

Please ignore my last post. I just leave it as someone else may have use for it.

You recieved the tree bare in october and it flowered one month ago. So obviously you are in the nortern hemisphere.

The soil is very organic and extreamly wet on the photo. If a tree in that soil gets a late frost it will die. That is my best guess for reason.
