The best thing to do is find a local group and go to their workshops.? Watch what they do and ask questions.?

That is normally a good advice Ivan.
In my club noone grow ficus benjamina as bonsai and therefore nobody can give any advice on that topic.
Do anyone in your club grow benjamina as bonsai?

A couple here have ficus,? My ficus? is about 25 years old. I bought it in the floral section of the grocery when it was about 2 mm thick. Now it is about 8 cm thick, at least a meter wide in the canopy, and my heaviest pot.
The other ficuses in the club are not this big.

I did not ask you about ficus. I asked about ficus benjamina. We have already established the fact that your ficus is not a benjamina in this thread. Now I am wondering if any experienced member of your club grow benjamina. I already know that the experienced members in my club do not waste time on them and that not a single show I have visited has had one on display.

Yes, there are benjamina here. Not many, but a couple. You would think with the almost tropical weather there would be more. There is one large older one and three or four small ones, less than five years old.?
There is a debate over style with the ficus, both mine and theirs. Should you allow the aerial leaders that drop down to develop into roots? One answer is yes, because that is the nature of the species. One answer is no because that takes away the strong central trunk optic.

Ohh, interesting. I have never seen a benjamina throwing out aerial roots before. Here they just grow succers. If I had a benjamina throwing out aerial roots, I woud definetely let them grow.
