A bit of a frustration here, I wired a young trident maple last year, thinking I was adding nice movement, but I now realize the bend I made right above the first branch has caused some reverse taper. It’s subtle but definitely there.
Has anyone dealt with this kind of issue before?
Is there any way to reduce or disguise reverse taper over time, or is this tree now a long-term carving candidate?

Monday at our annual bonsai barbecue (bonsai club and pork barbecue, not barbecuing trees) one person said there is a technique of wiring black pines where you leave the wire on the tree so the tree grows around the wire, leaving bumps and ridges in the bark. We wondered if any tree could grow around wire, if the angle of the wire were at a sufficient angle to allow the bark to pull water up from the roots.
Then we dropped the subject.?

Yes, definetely. I have one of that black pines full of old wires inside. Better be carful what tools I use and where I cut.
But creating such a tree takes a decade or more and do not create inverse taper as far as I know. If it woult, there would not be many producers using that?technique.
