grow lights

I live in MD and keep my trees outside from May until Nov(ish). During the winter months I keep them in the living room, which is well lit but not, I suspect, well lit enough for their health. Two years ago I bought grow lights and that winter they did OK, but this past winter I lost multiple trees - I think due to their needing more light. This is particularly annoying b/c I used the exact same set-up both years. I'm going to buy all new grow lights and try again this winter - can anyone recommend a good brand or type? They must be free-standing, I can't hang anything from the walls or ceiling.?
Thank you.?
Thank you.?

Makes no sence that the light that was ok last year is not enough this year. There must be another reason. What species do you have?

I entirely agree that it doesn't make sense. Nothing changed from the previous winter - same plants (mostly), same locations, same grow lights. I bring in all the tropicals: jades, ficus, and some other misc. ones. I water and mist and feed. The main reason I'm faulting the grow lights is (a) they were the type where you can choose red, blue or both (I chose both) and (b) the longest they would run was 9 hours, which I suspect just wasn't long enough. I tried installing timers on my outlets to extend the time but for technical reasons relating to the way my outlets are situated, I couldn't do that.?
So I'm asking for suggestions for my new grow lights. And yes, I do need grow lights b/c our windows are the type that block UV.?
Thank you.?

Uv is not necessary for photosyntesis and is not in the spectrum of any cheap led grow light.
I do use a lot of grow lights for some of my growing projects, but never used it for bonsai. I rather lower the temperature to get in balance with the awailable sunlight.
Anyway: start with downloading an ppfd meter app to your phone. Give me the reading for outdoors midday on a sunny day and under your grow light where the tree would normally be. And I will try to guide you from there.

Oh, yes. Jades do not need light in winter to survive. I live in Sweden where we have less than 5 hours sun november to february.
