I received an outdoor 每日吃瓜 for xmas. I live in Pennsylvania. I do not know if I should put it in a cold place for hibernation or start watering it. Thanks!

Yes that is an outdoor tree - as far as I can tell, it's a needle juniper - but no, I wouldn't say that it is a bonsai. This is a topic that comes up a lot on this forum, and it is a fairly common mistake (I'm sure someone else will want to tell you about the difference). Seeing as you got it for Christmas and it's currently the 13th of January, I would say that you should definitely move it outside if you haven't already. Junipers can withstand as low as around -10 Celsius (or +14F) before they need to be protected from frost, and the weather forecast for Pennsylvania looks like it's fine.

I'm not sure what you mean by ' start watering it' as you should probably still water the tree during winter. Don't water junipers too much, as they don't like soil that is too moist, and can actually benefit from periods of slight drought. Don't let the tree dry out completely, though.

DO NOT PUT THIS PLANT IN FULL FROST

A juniper that has just been bought, most likely was in a warm location and has NOT prepared itself for winter. So putting it in below freezing temperatures may cause it to die.

Rather, put it in a cold location, e.g., garage, which is frost-free & bright for a while. Then, when temperatures are just above freezing, put it outside.

Note: Also dormant plants need water.
