look, i don't have a clue how a thick powerful trunk and nebari is achieved in such a short beautiful tree. How is this structure achieved with the branches?

Assuming this was from a tree stump, whats made it so thick with those beautiful structures? please someone try and explain this to me, how i can start progressing to anything which is nearly as beautiful as anything like this?

The structure with the branches is pretty well explained in the video
The thick trunk and roots indicate how big the tree was that the bonsai was created from. At 7:10 you can see the tree was carved.
