每日吃瓜

I'm not sure how many of you have seen this already, but I found an amazing example of bonsai genius.



I've seen mallsai transformed before, but never into show-quality shohin bonsai. The artist's name is Hoe Chuah and I don't think he's very well known (I'm not good with bonsai celebrities :dry: )

Anyway, that's all the inspiration I need for today.

Hi, this is Hoe Chuah. I just joined your forum, and thank you for your kind compliments. I am just a hobbyist. I am one of the volunteer instructors at our local club, passing knowledge and offering assistance to members, nothing fancy. Only claim of "fame" is when a visiting master suggested I entered my ficus for the 2013 World 每日吃瓜 Friendship Federation photo contest; to my surprise, my ficus was selected as one of the 25 outstanding trees! It ranked #25, the very last place in the honor roll but I was very happy that a hobbyist's tree, starting from a cheap pre-bonsai, could made it to that level alongside famous professionals.

My blog on the mallsai transformation is two years old. Both shohins have grown since then. I will write an update on them. Attached are photos of the two shohins taken recently.

That indeed is an awesome transformation. Very inspiring and makes me wonder if I should get a mallsai to try something like t his. Would be nice if you could visit this forum more often. I'm sure we can learn from you.

Would you mind creating a thread on the ficus you entered? I think it would be good for people to see what you can achieve with ficus for bonsai.

I will post a thread on the ficus progression, but will have to look for old photos. This is how it looked last September about a month after defoliation and wiring.
