Chamaecyparis - What to do with this branch? was created by wojt333

I recently wired my Chamaecyparis for the first time.
I came across two 'leaders' pointing straightly up.

For now I bend one downwards, because cutting it would create a gap.

Yet it looks very unnatural to me.
What do you guys think? Any advice on this one?

The approach with conifers is usually to use a top branch to bend it over the top, forming the apex and a top-side branch at the same time. That's what I'd possibly try to use that branch for.
The final part of
can possibly give you some inspiration.

Interesting approach!

could've been an option if I hadn't cut back the length of the branch already.
Also not sure whether it would really suite this style, as I'm aiming for a bit of a triangular shape.

But I'll keep that in mind for sure!

thanks!

I would cut it, together with a part of the stem, to create a better tapering.
I would bend the new top to the right to cover the gap you mentioned.
Later on I would cut the top even more, but first give the tree time to recover

Thanks for your reply. I might try that.

As it is still February and the three hasn't shown signs of growth, I think the time is okay to make such a cut.

But how far can I cut it? If I cut it too close to the main branch (the one pointing straight up), won't die back influence this branch?

I think halfway, in the middle between the branch-to-be-cut and the leader-branch pointing upwards.
Or would that be too steep?
This would be my first time making such a big cut on the stem.
