First time poster / 每日吃瓜 grower looking for pruning advice.
I recently purchased a Ficus (I think?) and I'm not sure how to prune it. Can I just cut at point C (see picture) and then bend the new sprout/limb up to match the position of branches A and B? This little shoot of growth seems to be extending forever. I want to make my first cut a good one
Thank you in advance for any advice or ideas.

Hello!
If you want that shoot to get thicker at the base, you could let it grow for some time, and then prune it...
And if you want to open it's canopy, you can tie the sprouts on the pot to bent them down.
If you just got this plant, I know you must be anxious to work on it, but I would let it take a spring/summer growth boom before pruning...
You can have some info about ficus here: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/ficus

look at the leaves. THe new sprout is the original plant whose roots were used as a trunk. The small leaves were then pasted onto the roots in a process called grafting.
If you want to keep the small leaf variety you need to fully remove the new sprout.

Thank you very much for the reply. It never crossed my mind that I was looking at two different trees. No wonder it didn't make sense in relation to the pictures I was viewing online.
