Hi have been reading a good book and it suggests using a foliage feed when you feed your trees.what are people's thoughts on doing this ?
Also it recommends a bi-monthly fungus and bug treatment.
I have to say as a newbie to Bonsia i appreciate all the advice given on the forum.

Well, some people treat their trees on winter with lime sulfur solution, that could count as mineral foliage for some trees, fungal prevention as it kill spores and mites eggs. I don't know if that's the kind of answer you looking for tho...
There's also bordaux mixture with copper sulfate, which you can use any time of year (just be carefull with instruction, avoid hot sun, etc...).
And sometimes I use systemic fungicide, that would grant some plants months of imunitty...

Hi Albas, thanks for your reply.
The book was suggesting a fungus prevention treatment every other month.
And it would also act as pest killer as well as you can buy fungus and bug prevention spray combined?
would that be a sensible thing to do as prevention is better than a? cure.?

Well, I don't treat every month for fungus, I aim for critical moments like early spring, when it's wet and warming.
For more sensible species I use systemic, which provide around 3 months of residual effect, and that's enough for it to go tru' the whole spring without issue...
For copper sulfate it will be more times, as it doesn't have that much of residual effect.
And for lime sulphur solution probably once or twice during winter is ok, but I know some people that use it waaay more often.

I do water the whole of my trees from above, so they get the nutrient rich water on their leafs every time I water. I guess that counts as foliar feeding?
I have never used any pesticide ever on any of my trees. That is 10 years and a growing colection over those years. Today some 200 trees in different stage of development. I agree that prevention is better than treating. However the best prevention is good care not poison.
Systemic pesticides is a cultural thing. In usa it seems like it is widely used everywhere and most polinators are seriously thretend. Nowadays they drive around bee hives to the farms for polination, sinze there are not enough of them in nature. Where I am we value polinators very high and I have not seen any products on the shelves for more than 15 years. We do not need to drive bee hives around for polination, the nature provide that service for us.
EU banned all neonicotinoids in 2018. I do not know if GB legalized it again in brexit or not. All I know is that they are absolutely not needed in bonsai.

Thanks Tropfrog, all the advice i get is helping me build my knowledge on Bonsia.
I am in the very early stages of learning bonsia.
So I will keep on asking questions.
I have a small collection of 12 trees.

Just to make it clear, I use systemic fungicide, but not pesticide...
I avoid systemic pesticides at all cost, not only because they're quite restrict here, but because I have a bit of a balanced garden here, I have predators like lady bugs, so even when I have to use some kind of contact pesticide, I'm get cautious about it so I don't kill the good bugs...
I don't see the need to do prevention with pesticides, at least not anymore, I have a case here and there, not hard to treat, but no infestations...
Now, fungus is an issue for me due to my subtropical climate and micro-climate that is very humid and hot some parts of the year, it is what it is,

One of the first thing to learn in my opinion is how to spell bonsai correct. You are systematically getting it wrong in all your posts.

I find your reply offensive as some one who has been diagnosed with word blindness which is a form of dyslexia.
