Cat friendly bonsai trees was created by Channie2010

Hello everyone my name is Channie, I live in Sweden and I'm a cat and I love to chew on plants and flowers my owner buys. Recently she decided to buy a bonsai tree and there's little information out there about which tree is pet friendly and most of my google searches brought me here but not much success in finding what i am looking for.

So i decided to join the crowd and ask:
Is there anyone here who can help with any suggestions to what tree is good for me to nibble on from time to time and still live to tell the tale?

Thank you kindly :)

I think most people here would worry about the cat killing the tree, rather than the tree killing the cat...
Sorry, but I think you're looking for a decorative plant that is non-poisonous, not for a bonsai.

Hey I would rather have all my bonsai's killed than my cat, I would be super mad though... but even if I had a very expensive bonsai, I would still prefer my cat to survive. Luckily my cat only likes to chew on living creatures. There are certain repellents they sell at cat store and you can spray close to the area where you have the tree. I would still get a non-poisonous specimen just to be safe. If you have an indoor cat, get an outdoor bonsai. If your cat is indoor/outdoor, get a non-poisonous species and spray the area. I know some species are poisonous, like boxwood.

I also doubt your cat would chew on a poisonous plant; cats are pretty smart. But play it safe!

Interesting. I have about 100 trees and many species from Maple to Juniprs and pines. I have never seen any cat try to chew any of them. I doubt as was said before that the cat would touch any that are poisonous to them. You could always grow some catnip for it in a few pots the it would hopefully stay away from the trees.
You could also try feeding the cat then it so it was not hungry and will leave them alone,

I could have guessed someone would take that too literally.
I have a cat, and I do not worry about it getting killed by any of my trees at all. The little rascal does like to jump of the roof, onto the bonsai stand, in between my trees. I love cats and their agility and up till now it has never gone wrong, but the change of my cat tipping over a tree and damaging it is there. The chance of one of my trees killing the cat is non-existant.

Now read my post again.

Yeah I have a boxwood outside, and one time I saw my cat approach it to smell it (you know how curious they are...) and he made that "funny face" they make when they smell something funky, and moved away hahahahaha. They can smell the poison. But again, it is so weird your cat likes to chew on plants, but hey, my cat LOVES to chew plastic, which is gross and truly annoying . It is a rescued cat, who survived a few years living outside, a "stray" cat, so my theory is that he chews on plastic because he learned that he could find food in trash bags. I've heard cats chewing weird things might be a sign of problem in their mouth, so you might want to check with the vet.

You could try a dogwood! HA! Get it?! Dog.. wood.... I'm ridiculous.
I have no issues with any of my cats vs. my bonsai. They usually just attack flowers. If anything, they use my bonsai wintering bed for a litter box every now and again, and the dogs, same thing. I think, as long as you're keeping bonsai outdoors, as most trees should, the cats will have more stimuli to amuse them than the bonsai. If you're looking to keep indoor plants and the cat's going to go for it anyway, a cheap decorative houseplant would be the way to go.

cats feeding on plants typically indicate that they need to get rid of a fuurball as far as I know. try putting some catgrass out (or ing the cat outside).

I think our cat reads this forum... now, is this a cat-friendly bonsai or not ?
