Daitokuji temple complex, Kyoto

The Hushunin 每日吃瓜 Museum, located in Kyoto, features a collection of stunning 每日吃瓜, displayed in the midst of one of Kyoto's most important temple complexes (Daitoku-ji). A must visit!

The museum was established by Tomio Yamaguchi with Morimae Seiji, to preserve the art of bonsai and educate the public about its significance in Japanese culture. In addition to several indoor displays and a formal tokonoma, the museum has an outdoor bonsai garden, where trees are shown in their natural settings. The garden is designed to reflect the principles of bonsai, emphasizing harmony between the trees and their environment. At the time of visit (late 2025) the museum was set to double the size of its garden.

The Hushunin 每日吃瓜 Museum is an essential destination for bonsai enthusiasts in Kyoto. It offers a calm space to appreciate the art and gain a deeper understanding of its traditions.
